Il Centro Studi e Documentazione Isola di Ustica e la DES srl di Palermo hanno pubblicato in collaborazione il primo eBook dedicato all’isola di Ustica dal titolo L’isola in viaggio… Una storia di Ustica raccontata da cartoline, di Vito Ailara e Giuseppe Giacino.Il progetto editoriale nasce nel solco di una lunga collaborazione tra il Centro Studi e la DES che vede al centro delle loro attività il rilancio culturale e turistico dell’Isola di Ustica. Le Ossidiane, collana editoriale del Centro Studi, e Viaggio in Sicilia, collana di eBook della DES, propongono un modo innovativo di narrare la storia recente dell’isola. La scena è lasciata alle immagini: cartoline sbiadite e per lo più monocromatiche, stampate a partire dalla fine dell’Ottocento e gelosamente custodite da generazioni di Usticesi in Italia e nel mondo con la voglia di mantenere vivo il legame con le proprie radici. Le vecchie cartoline ristampate con cura sembrano quasi affrancarsi dalla fissità delle scene rappresentate e comporre, una dopo l’altra, il film muto di Ustica com’era; i testi che le corredano, in italiano e inglese, fanno da “colonna sonora” ricostruendo con rigore gli ultimi due secoli e mezzo della interessante storia dell’isola.

The Center for Studies and Documentation of the Island of Ustica, and the Palermo-based firm DES srl have collaborated in publishing the first eBook dedicated to the island of Ustica entitled "L’isola in viaggio… Una storia di Ustica raccontata da cartoline”—An Island on Journey...A History of Ustica told through postcards—by Vito Ailara and Giuseppe Giacino. This editorial project builds on the long collaboration between the Center for Studies and DES, which both share the same vocation: promoting the revival of the Island of Ustica in the fields of culture and tourism. Le Ossidiane, a book series published by the Center for Studies, and Viaggio in Sicilia, an eBook series published by DES, are a new and innovative way of narrating the recent history of the island. The images do all the talking: faded, ostly black-and-white postcards, printed from the end of the nineteenth century and jealously cherished by generations of Ustica's sons and daughters spread in Italy and around the world with the desire to keep the bond with their roots alive. These old postcards, reprinted with great care, seem almost to free themselves rom the stiffness of the scenes and to compose, one after the other, a silent film of Ustica as it used to be.
The texts accompanying the images, in Italian and English, are a sort of "soundtrack" and offer a rigorous reconstruction of the last two and a half centuries of the island's rich history.
